  • Overview

    ThinkWell is an emerging health systems development organization that is currently in a major growth phase. While our core area of work is health financing, we take a health systems approach that includes human resources for health, health information systems, private sector engagement, and research and evaluation. As part of the USAID Bangladesh Advancing Universal Health Care (AUHC) project, we are looking for a Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL) Coordinator. The AUHC project will transition the management of 399 Surjer Hashi Network (SHN) clinics that are currently being managed by 25 NGOs to a newly formed social enterprise. To prepare for this transition, and through-out the life of the project, there are assessments, research studies and other activities that will generate a significant amount of data and information. This data will be used to inform this transition as well as guide SHN programmatically. MERL Coordinator position is a full-time position based in Bangladesh AUHC project offices in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

    Within the AUHC project, ThinkWell leads the incubator unit that provides strategic and technical support to the newly established Surjer Hashi (Smiling Sun) Network (SHN), a sustainable pro-poor social enterprise. The Strategic Partnership Advisor is responsible for strategic alliances and partnerships to offer added value services to the clients of SHN and accountable for business growth of SHN through a vibrant network. The candidate will report to the Strategic Finance Director. (S)he will work with different teams across the project to develop and promote new revenue streams and attract additional resources by developing partnerships with market actors in delivering health services and related products.

    Responsibilities

    1. On behalf of SHN, explore partnerships in strategic and functional areas, such as referral networking, new service development and scale-up, group sales, insurance product(s) development and so on
    2. Provide guidance and support to SHN in accessing other sources of capital from institutional, nonconventional and private donor/funders
    3. Scan the partnership landscape for SHN, bring various eco-system partners through market-based partnerships
    4. Collaborate with Green Delta and other private sector market actors in developing appropriate insurance products for the clients of SHN
    5. Collaborate with the Government of Bangladesh to align and promote the SH clinics network as providers of national schemes like the Shastho Suraksha Karmashuchi (SSK).
    6. Initiate collaborative efforts with other team members to design and implement a network development strategy for operations efficiency, revenue and business growth of SHN
    7. Provide technical inputs to support the incubator to design and implement scalable systems and processes that optimize resource utilization and maximize efficiency of the network.
    8. Support development of the SHN business plan, by providing specific inputs related to expansion plan for the SHN network in terms of services, products and partnerships.
    9. Monitor and update knowledge of the business environment, identify new and emerging network expansion opportunities, assess risks and provide strategic guidance for building the network to exacting standards of quality and governance.
    10. Ensure the systematic use of scientific and technical knowledge in all activity’s design, implementation, and monitoring to advance UHC in Bangladesh
    11. Contribute to the project’s overall learning agenda
    12. Respond to ThinkWell Global Headquarters and donor to their queries at regular basis.
    13. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

    Qualifications

    1. The candidate will hold an advanced degree in business administration, marketing, finance, public health, or another relevant field;
    2. Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, including managing franchise or distribution business, supply chain, partnership and business development.
    3. Experience in the leveraging of resources from the private and public sector, preferably within the health sector.
    4. Experience working with donors, governments, or NGOs in international development finance or a related field.
    5. Experience of living and working in a low \-income or lower-middle income country is highly desirable;
    6. Strong quantitative skills, proficiency in Stata or another statistics software is desirable;
    7. Fluent command of English and Bengali;
    8. Willingness to travel is essential.
