Overview

ThinkWell is an emerging health systems development organization that is currently in a major growth phase. While our core area of work is health financing, we take a health systems approach that includes human resources for health, health information systems, private sector engagement, and research and evaluation. We are looking for a Strategic Revenue and Marketing Director to provide expert policy advice and technical assistance as part of the USAID Bangladesh Advancing Universal Health Care (AUHC) project. This is a full-time position is based in Bangladesh AUHC project offices in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Within the AUHC project, ThinkWell will lead the incubator unit which will provide strategic and technical support to the newly established Surjer Hashi (Smiling Sun) Group (SHG), a sustainable pro-poor social enterprise. The Strategic Revenue and Marketing Director is responsible for revenue generation and marketing for SHG and accountable for its financial success and innovation. The candidate will report directly to the Incubator Director and oversee the revenue generation advisor and marketing advisor. They will work with the different teams of the incubator to develop and promote new revenue streams and attract additional resources, which could include private investment, donor funding, debt financing, or government funding. Ultimately, the candidate will be responsible for managing the development and implementation a strategy so that the SHG is self-sustaining.

Responsibilities

  1. In partnership with the Incubator Director, provide the incubator with strategic direction for innovative, sustainable plans for revenue generation, and resource mobilization for SHG.
  2. Provide technical leadership and guidance to support NGOs to develop and implement strategies to increase cost recovery, as well as increase access and coverage for the poorest of the poor in Bangladesh.
  3. Oversee marketing and revenue generation teams to secure a diverse range of revenue streams, improve cost recovery and attract additional resources (including private investment, donor funding, debt financing, or government funding).
  4. Engage potential private sector, business, and corporate leaders to advocate for funds to support health service provision for the poor.
  5. Lead the creation, and maintain oversight, of new revenue generating schemes, such as a subsidy fund to expand health coverage of the poor and enable SHG to maintain competitive rates vis-à-vis other private health care service providers.
  6. Manage the marketing team to increase awareness of the SHG network and its enhanced service packages.
  7. Drive the creation and implementation of a financing strategy so that SHG will be self-sustaining after the AUHC project timeline.
  8. Provide input for overall project landscape analysis, the creation of business plan, and the management framework for SHG.
  9. Ensure the systematic use of scientific and technical knowledge in all activity’s design, implementation, and monitoring to advance UHC in Bangladesh.
  10. Contribute to the project’s overall learning agenda
  11. Work with short-term technical assistance pool and strategic procurement of subcontract services, including from Ad-din and Green Delta, on the creation and implementation of an insurance pilot.
  12. Respond to ThinkWell Global Headquarters and donor queries at regular basis.
  13. Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

  1. The candidate will hold an advanced degree in business administration, marketing, law, finance, public health, or another relevant field;
  2. Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, including developing financial transactions, working with innovative or complex financial instruments to leverage and attract resources (such as guarantee programs and capital markets), and overseeing a revenue and resource mobilization team for sales and business development;
  3. Experience in the leveraging of resources from the private and public sector;
  4. Experience in business development and revenue generation, such as management/strategic consulting, investment banking, private equity/venture capital, or strategic marketing;
  5. Experience working with ministries of health and finance and proven track record to knowledgably and effectively interact with both key actors;
  6. Experience working with donors, governments, or NGOs in international development finance or a related field.
  7. Experience of living and working in a low income or lower-middle income country is highly desirable;
  8. Strong quantitative skills, proficiency in Stata or another statistics software is desirable;
  9. Fluent command of English and Bengali;
  10. Willingness to travel is essential.

  4. Ability to represent ThinkWell convincingly and credibly;
  5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members in a multi-cultural environment, and based in various locations;
  6. Ability to prepare high-quality technical reports, policy briefing materials and presentations;
  7. A combination of humility and confidence.
